Tristan has been involved in the hospitality industry for 16 years, as a chef, waiter and bartender.

After leaving Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant in 2007, Tristan took a role as a Brand Ambassador for the Reserve Brands Group, training bartenders and consumers on the delights of Rum & Vodka, across the UK. During this period he was lucky to train some of the highest regarded bars and restaurants in the UK, including The Connaught Hotel, The Dorchester, The Ritz and Zuma.

In 2009 Tristan founded Fluid Movement as a co-director, a breakthrough events and consultancy company for the drinks industry. This then lead to the opening of Purl his first bar in 2010 and the Worship Street Whistling Shop in 2011. In 2012 Fluid Movement opened their first restaurant in London, Dach & Sons, a New York inspired hot-dog, beer and bourbon bar. In 2014 Fluid Movement opened its first venue outside of London: Surfside, a steak and lobster restaurant on Polzeath beach in North Cornwall.

Whistling Shop was awarded Time Out London’s best new bar in 2011 and has been placed in the World’s Fifty Best Bars for three consecutive years. It’s at Worship Street Whistling Shop that Tristan has been able to showcase his passion as a homebrewer, distiller and all-round chemist. Tristan is renowned as one of the leading experts in the bar community on cocktail science, molecular mixology and pioneering of forward thinking techniques. Time Out London’s top 25 bars roundup in 2012 included all three Fluid Movement venues.

Tristan has travelled to over 100 distilleries around the world, in over 20 countries, including Holland, Scotland, Mexico, Cuba, France, Lebanon, Italy, Guatemala, Japan, America and Spain.

Tristan was awarded UK bartender of the year in 2012 by Class Magazine, having been a runner up in 2011. Tristan was also included in Evening Standard’s 2012 top 1000 most influential people in London. He has appeared on various TV shows in the UK, including Market Kitchen, Live with Gabby and Something For the Weekend. Tristan is a regular contributor to CLASS magazine and various other print and online drinks publications including TIME.com.

Tristan has a huge passion for tea and coffee as well as alcoholic beverages. In 2009 he was ranked 3rd in the UK Barista Championships. Previous to this he successfully harvested, processed, roasted and brewed the first cup of UK grown coffee from the Eden Project in Cornwall, achieving international press coverage. In Spring 2015 he published his first coffee book, The Curious Barista’s Guide to Coffee (RPS)

Tristan’s first book, the Andre Simon Award nominated, The Curious Bartender: The Artistry & Alchemy of Creating the Perfect Cocktail was released in October 2013 and became an Evening Standard Bestseller. His second book, The Curious Bartender: And Odyssey of Whiskies was released in October 2014. His upcoming title The Curious Bartender’s Gin Palace is released in April 2016.
